I always say that the getting-ready part of a wedding day is probably one of the most important parts to photograph.
This is when the bride is completely fresh—hair and makeup are perfect, the dress is ready, the flowers have arrived, and all of those beautiful details that she spent months choosing are finally coming together.
Carmen, the publisher of Destin City Lifestyle magazine, chose The Alice in Destin for a very special celebration—she was getting married all over again! So I really wanted to take advantage of this part of the day and get creative with her bridal portraits.
We started in the getting-ready suite at The Alice, which is probably one of my favorite spaces on the property to photograph a bride.
It’s All About the Details
Before everything starts moving quickly, I love having time to photograph the details—the dress, shoes, jewelry, flowers, invitations and all of those little things that were chosen specifically for the wedding.
Then it’s time for the bride.
This is when she looks and feels her absolute best, and I think it’s so important to give her time for beautiful portraits before we move into the rest of the day.
The getting-ready suite at The Alice gave us such a beautiful space to work with. The huge windows bring in gorgeous natural light, the water views are incredible, and of course, that oversized mirror gave me so many opportunities to play with reflections and create something a little more editorial.
We weren’t rushed, so we could try different angles, move around the room and really have fun with it.
For me, these aren’t just “getting ready photos.” They’re part of the bridal portraits and deserve just as much attention as everything that comes later.
And this was only the first part of what we created at The Alice.
I’ll share Part Two soon—when we headed outside and took advantage of the property, the waterfront and that gorgeous Destin sunset for our couple portraits.
Photographing Weddings at The Alice
I absolutely love photographing at The Alice, and I’m honored to be one of their Preferred Wedding Photographers.
Knowing the property means I already know where the light falls beautifully, where we can slip away for portraits without losing valuable time with your guests, and when it’s worth sneaking down to the dock for those last few minutes of sunset.
